Re: HOMING PROBLEMS...

This may be overkill for you, but there is a technique I have been thinking of using with an optical endstop arrangement. It's possible somebody has already designed an inexpensive circuit to do this; I haven't looked around to see. It wouldn't be hard to do with a small Arduino-type chip, and would...

Re: Kits for upgrading to Shapeoko 2

This is exactly why I brought this up now. They are already selling some of the larger & heavier items that appear in Shapeoko 2 but not Shapeoko 1: the new motor mounts plates and the new endplates. I hope they sell the 500mm rails, but can live with it if they never do that. A lot of the smaller h...

Kits for upgrading to Shapeoko 2

Not sure if anyone has brought this up yet... A lot of people have been asking about kits for upgrading Shapeoko 1 to 2. I imagine that most people in this forum would be more interested in an upgrade kit than in the $299 mechanical kit or the full kits that are currently available for preorder. (I ...

Re: Fastener Assortments

On the few occasions I've needed something uncommonly long, I go down to the local hardware store (my town is blessed with one very small but very dense, very old hardware store, not part of a chain) and look for threaded rod. So far they've had all of the metric sizes I've asked for, in meter (or m...

Re: Shapeoko 2

You seriously do not want to drop any of these plates on your toe.

If you put these plates on your Shapeoko, and then have problems milling aluminum, I don't think you'll be able to blame it on the plates. Perhaps that is why this gauge was chosen.

Re: Shapeoko 2

The end plate weighs 202 grams, and the motor mount plate weighs 500 grams. I weighed two instances of each item, and saw no variation. This was done with a (digital) kitchen scale that reads to 1 gram; I am unsure of its actual accuracy. (But some experiments with small coins reveal that the scale'...

Re: Shapeoko 2

I just received some new parts from Inventables this week.

Both the new motor mount plate and the new end plate measure about 3.6 to 3.8 mm thick, depending on where I measure. They appear to be made from exactly the same material.

Local hackerspace? ROFLMAO! I might as well be on the moon....

Why wouldn't Inventables offer this? They already stock them, as part of the Shapeoko kit!

Re: Why end plate and motor mount always out of stock?

Sure, we can chopsaw the makerslide. But some of us don't have that tool. For the double X axis, you need to have two pieces exactly the same length. I have every confidence that Inventables would do it right, having supplied me with my first piece. But as a practical matter, if Inventables once aga...
