Re: MAKERCAM POCKETING ISSUE

Update: Makercam's Pocket Bug is actually at least two bugs, and probably three. The one that is triggered with two concentric circles has now been properly fixed, and tweaking of drawings isn't needed anymore. This was due to a couple of missing 'corner cases' in the nesting routines that should hav...

Re: MAKERCAM POCKETING ISSUE

OK, we can cross off the circle hatchfill glitch, just fixed it. I think it was only ever a cosmetic problem, but it looked a little unsettling, and it might have contributed to the Pocket Bug, but it seems essentially irrelevant to that. Makercam's circle is formed from two 180° arc segments. Each ...

Re: Makercam + Candle + Laser problems

I’m no expert on laser cutters, but makercam is expressly designed to create Gcode for cnc milling machines. The vertical lines are indeed z-axis moves to raise or lower the cutting bit into or out of the material being cut. They are of no real relevance to laser cutter, as they operate at a fixed h...

Re: MakerCAM v Carbide Create

Just read this! I was unaware that others were still looking to update Makercam. I started doing this a couple of months ago, and I've no idea how to use github. I found a free utility called FreeFlashDecompiler which lets me replace ActionScript3.0 files and code snippets and recompile to a .swf fi...

Re: SVG Elliptical Arcs

I just checked the spec on my modded shapeoko-1 and the horizontal positional resolution is 0.023mm per microstep, and the height resolution is 0.0031mm. That's only nominal as it presumes a rigid frame and a rigid and well secured stock that isn't going to move under the cutting forces, and also th...

Re: SVG Elliptical Arcs

I’m away from home till Saturday but re your last comment on CNC pixels. There is a sense that a cnc machine is rendering an image in pixels, where a pixel is the smallest movement the machine can make. In my shapeoko 1, that is about 0.1mm roughly in the x/y plane, by memory. But unlike a screen, a...

Re: SVG Elliptical Arcs

Thanks for that, I appreciate it! No doubt we shall find ourselves voyaging strange seas of thought forever, though mostly I find myself becalmed there rather often! :D I've identified a new bug in makercam, and svg, or at least SVGWriter.as, is at the bottom of it. For a lot of small cnc projects I...

Re: SVG Elliptical Arcs

I find these things fascinating, and am going to have to get into this in depth when I start looking at the Pocketing bug in earnest. I don't know how well into makercam's source files you are, but if you have any ideas about where I should start looking, I'd be grateful. As I mentioned up-thread, i...

Re: Tabletop Game Counters

Thanks! Most of the blue fleet is done, but having to amend several tooling values in the CAM dialogs for each symbol on the ships, for a block of five or six ships per piece of laminate, I was really really really wanting to be able to change the defaults to something where I could for the most par...

Re: SVG Ellipitical Arcs

Very interesting read. I was and am aware of the SVG coding that is used in Makercam and almost every other graphic application that isn't bitmap-based. Makercam is a fork of PartKam by Jack Qiao, also known as Jack000. Jack was the originator of Partkam and his source code for it is here https://ba...
