Re: What is causing these weird lines in facing operation?

Oak is known to be really porous (like soda straws running through the wood), so wood species may be at play here as well.

Re: Alternative, Beefier Options to GRBLShield (gShield)?

The Gradus looks like a good option, though I have emailed them regarding the ability to update the grbl on it down the road-- as well as the availability of the 4A drivers and have not heard anything back. In the meantime, I'll pencil down a note to look more into the Smoothie board, thank you. Edi...

Alternative, Beefier Options to GRBLShield (gShield)?

I posted this on another forum and I'm looking forward to hearing responses from you guys as well. Long story short, I have a ShapeOko2 with the standard GRBLShield/gShield. It has 3 stepper drivers for my 4 stepper motors and tops out at 2-2.5A per driver if I recall-- it's worked fairly well with ...

Re: Trying To Get The V Grove Groovy

I should mention that I have not used the specific v-bit I linked to, all of mine are 1/4" diameter-- but those three or four 1/4" ones are basically identical in design to the one I linked to and from the same seller. Most of my v carving has been in poplar, and generally the endmills have produced...

Re: Trying To Get The V Grove Groovy

I tried a 90 degree V bit of a similar style to the Nomad one you're using and got terrible results as well. I now exclusively use V bits of this style here: eBay Listing Link I use primarily 1/4" endmills in my Dewalt palm router, but the results with these sharp tipped V bits (and they are needle ...

G10/ Garolite Notes

Folks, I have a buddy that wanted a spacer for some part of his car engine (can you tell I'm not a car guy?) and he wanted it cut out of Garolite/G10. As I had a number of issues with the material, I wanted to share my notes in case it helps the next guy. The part was for his maggie intake (accordin...

Re: Atlas 3D Kickstarted Laser Scanner Now Available

I think any spray that gives a matte surface should work. Even a can of matte black spray. .... I'd recommend against a flat black spray. We have a white light scanner (so it uses a series of white/black bars to sort out the contours of the surface) and flat black tends to absorb too much light for...
