Re: M4E's Shapeoko 2 Build

My Hello World youtube video is below. I did the Hello World at least 8 times without any errors related to the Shapeoko operation. It appears I have the machine reasonably square resulting in consistent results. My biggest question remains the heat generated by the X-axis and Z-axis. https://www.yo...

Re: M4E's Shapeoko 2 Build

I successfully ran Hello World last evening after some Grbl configuration tweaks. I am using the Inventable's NEMA 17 stepper motor for the z-axis and NEMA 23's recommended by Caleb Peters for the x-axis and y-axis. The NEMA 23's were purchased here - http://www.automationtechnologiesinc.co ... ith-...

Re: M4E's Shapeoko 2 Build

Big day today because I am ready to try running the Hello World program. Last evening while watching the 49ers beat the Rams, I completed the wiring and hooked up the Arduino / gShield. I was able to effectively jog all the axis' with the Universal gCode Sender to confirm I had all the parts wired c...

Re: Caleb's Shapeoko 2 #3164

Caleb, I have gotten my Shapeoko 2 construct done. And I am finishing up the wiring to the Arduino / gShield to do my Hello World hopefully sometime yet this week. It has been about 9 months since I last posted on your build log. I continue to appreciate the excellent learnings and documentation you...

Re: Tool Chain and Advice for a Mac user starting CNC

I too spent a lot of time researching the question of using the Mac for my Shapeoko 2. It can be done, but with a lot of effort relative to the reward. I agree that CAM is the biggest issue in being too simple, too hard or too expensive. There are a lot more CAD/CAM options available on the PC side ...

Re: M4E's Shapeoko 2 Build

My platform will be one of my 4 workbenches. Likely a metal table that I use for electronic projects. I have not really given this much thought.

Re: M4E's Shapeoko 2 Build

Gadgetman!, I am not sure what you mean by platform, but I assume you mean electronic / software system. So here is my plan: 1. I plan to start with Arduino / gShield controlling a quiet spindle. I bought the 300 watt spindle, the relay and speed controller required. I will use the Gcode Sender with...

M4E's Shapeoko 2 Build

I purchased my Shapeoko 2 kit in January this year. You may ask why so long to get started on my build. Well being a newbie, I decided to learn all I could about Arduino and controller electronics, CAD/CAM for Mac, and what others are doing. In the process, I joined a local Controller/Electronics cl...

Re: Caleb's Shapeoko 2 #3164

Excellent, Thank you very much. I wish more would document their systems like this so newbies can get a better idea of the options and what is required. I am continuing to read all the threads I can come across to make my system. Based on a conversation with cvoinescu, I did not realize that I could...
