Glad to see your post and that you are recovering. Thought about you just the other day and was hoping you would return. Don't give the PT folks too bad a time they can really help restore the mobility. Hope the rest of your recovery goes well.

Re: Inventables censorship?
I think Inventables needs to grow up and understand that if you produce a machine that makes stuff, some of it will offend someone. 3D printers are used for color changing sex toys and other items, lathes are used to make art that many find offensive. But they don't bother asking for the machine nam...

Re: i/o shield for limit switches, user buttons and controls
I would be interested in getting 2 boards with or without components. Also what is the process to just have your own made? I need 2 anyway.

Re: SO3 under a workbench
It should be fine down there. I would cover the SO with a canvas drop cloth to keep out the wood chips, dust and shavings. You might be more comfortable sitting on a furniture dolly to work with it. That should get you closer without bending double.

Re: Flattening end grain fir
2 years is not a lot of time for a log to dry. I'm guessing it is water or trapped sap bleeding out. General rule of thumb for air drying is 1 year per inch but after about 3 inches thick it takes a long, long time. I agree on your process of flatten with router and sled, finish pass with SO and fin...

Re: Flattening end grain fir
You should be fine. The surface of the end grain will be dry enough to mill fairly easy. I would use several passes to get to the final thickness. I use a 3/4" bit in my 611 to flatten the wasteboard without issue. You may have to adjust the path to minimize chip out on the edges. I'd be interested ...

Re: Flattening end grain fir
Doesn't appear that he is resawing, that was done with a chainsaw. You can't put them through a planer, planners don't do well with end grain. The correct tool is a router normally on a sled. I don't see why this would not work but I would take a lighter pass. The wet end grain is going to be resist...

Re: SO3 Z axis Upgrade discussion
Not having belt drive, yet, how often does the belt fail? Is the Z axis belt more likely to fail than the other belts?

Re: Vac or planer ?
I too am trying to teach basic skills to a little girl. In my case it is my Granddaughter and she is in my shop often. We are still mostly in the safety stage at this point, she ties her hair back, wears her hearing protection and runs the drill press for me. She's only 5 but we talk about gravity, ...
