Gear Distortion

Hi Gang; I am cutting gears on my Shapeoko 2-using Aspire for the gcode from a dxf file. See pic below and notice the distortion of the gear teeth which varies around the perimeter of the gear. Any ideas what causes this? I am going to do the same gear in Makercam and use the Universal Gcode pgm to ...

Re: Pictures of finished machines

Will;
So far no Gcode interference but still early in the game. I think the opto-isolator circuits for the limits made that issue go away.

Re: Pictures of finished machines

Will;
Thanks
Yes, did put a fairly heavy duty power cable (unshielded) through the cable and added a receptacle to a rigid plastic angle piece on top of the X gantry.
As you surmised, I also trimmed the Makita cable-cut it and added a new plug.

Re: Mount for a Makita RT0701

Hi gang;
Here's another type of holder for the Makita-includes a dust skirt, vac attachment, and an LED ring light which is switch controlled;
LED runs on 12VDC- an old mobile phone adapter

Re: Pictures of finished machines

Hi gang; I just finished a Shapeoko 2 build which includes upgrades as it was built. The entire machine plus supporting computer and control panel is mounted on a heavy duty cart which can be easily relocated . IMG_1a.jpg The machine includes: 1. Basic Shapeoko 2 package with 250mm X axis and 800 mm...

Enabling Control Functions in GRBL

Hi Gang; I'm sure that these questions are answered somewhere but I cannot find out where, so pls bear with me and my ignorance. I recently added limit switches to the X and Y axiss-must I also add them to the Z axis to get the limit function to work? Do I have to change the GRBL code. Will X and Y ...

Re: Aspire-V Carve- Cambam Issues

Hi Gang; Thanks to all for the suggestions and comments. I suspect the problem may be spindle noise related interference, but haven't confirmed it. I did change the spindle to the Makita 701C from the DW660 and problem did not reappear running the Aspire file. I will continue to investigate but prob...

Re: Aspire-V Carve- Cambam Issues

Will;
Thanks for taking the time on this.
Just looked at the gcode for both the Aspire files using the posted post processors. No line is over 36 characters. Will check others tips mentioned in thread you referenced and advise.
best regards

Re: Aspire-V Carve- Cambam Issues

Will;
Thanks- the object is a 7 inch gear with 60 teeth and four internal cutouts. The cutouts are done first and around the middle of the second cutout the path changes and goes off to wherever. If its a GRBL issue, why does Cambam work and the others don't?
best regards
