Re: Shapeoko 2 - cuts ~0.5mm short, tried almost everything!

Have you tried running the Shapeoko Calibration pattern using your machine as a pen plotter?

That would at least isolate spindle and milling force issues from the underlying setup of the machine

Re: Web app - Heightmap grayscale image to G-Code

Another similar app that I came across just the other day is Image to 3D Converter by ClonerBox.

It does a great job of converting jpg or png images to stl files which can then be imported into CAM software like CamBam or others.

Re: Experiment with pointilism

I've posted the executable and source for my code in drop box here. It's released under the BSD 3-clause licence.
Let me know if you have any problems running the program or compiling the source. If people are really keen to develop it any further we could look at starting a GitHub project.

Re: Experiment with pointilism

I would be interested in this as well. Was your test image done with a v-bit? It looks more like it was done with a marker/laser. If you did use a v-bit, how did you finish the piece? The bit I used, is a Dremel 125 bit . The reason for the laser look is that it was cut into plywood with a light fa...

Experiment with pointilism

I've been experimenting with generating pointillist or stipple images for my Shapeoko, using the Stipplegen program from Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories. This is an example using a test image from that program. P7130080.JPG The main effort involved was in writing some software to convert the dots in...

Re: G# macro-programming

Are there good examples of the G-code macro programming language available anywhere, so that you can get a feel for the advantages over standard g-code?

Re: Workshop computer for $15

If you accept the fact that this is a DIY hobby/development board, and not a commercial board ready to use off the shelf, then you expect to have to get your hands dirty and deal with a steep learning curve (kind of like the SO3 :) ). I am getting to know more about Linux/Ubuntu than I ever thought...
