Re: Mount for a Makita RT0701
Here is a photo of the router mounted before I removed the tab, after removing the tab, the router head sits flush on the top mount.. This also shows the modified z-axis motor mount. Yes, I was going to ask that next... So you made a new mount plate? Or ground down the lip that juts out towards the...

Re: Mount for a Makita RT0701
I used the SVG file posted by TonyB. Made a slot in the side for 6-32 threaded rod and used washers, a star washer and a nut. About 15 hours on the mounts now and they are still tight. Here is a photo. I did remove the tab from the mounting side so the router would sit lower. Ah. The "tabs" where t...

Re: Mount for a Makita RT0701
I would fear cracking of the lip around the tightening screw. You had no problems with that?Woodworker wrote:For your spindle, why not use plywood? I did the mounts for my 611 in 18 mm plywood and it is plenty rigid.

Re: Mount for a Makita RT0701
My concerns about that design would be: - losing working area - the potential for twisting and interference as I noted above. - I'd probably manage to set the dust shoe height so that the Z-axis travel of the spindle would bump into it. I don't think I'd lose any work area. At least not in the X di...

Re: Mount for a Makita RT0701
BTW, I'm curious to hear what you think about the stiffness / stability of using HDPE for mounting the Makita. I'm tempted to do the same but am wondering if aluminum would be stiffer. Someone's done a nice aluminum mount for the RT0701, and was thinking about begging him to make one for me. A...

Re: Mount for a Makita RT0701
Perhaps you mean something like Targus' mount? Not exactly. Here too the dust shoe gets shoved down as the spindle gets deeper. I guess if his arrangement has low enough friction, the back pressure of the bristles would allow the tube to slide upward in the mount, maintaining the dust shoe height a...

Re: Mount for a Makita RT0701
I'm having a hard time envisioning what you describe, or seeing the need for a dust screw ... OK, I think there's two things that are leading to confusion here. The first is that I have a Shapeoko 2, while you have an original Shapeoko. The X carriage arrangements are different. Secondly, I think I...

Re: Mount for a Makita RT0701
I find it interesting that everyone is doing vacuum mounts that move up and down with the spindle. I was thinking that in most cases it would be preferable to mount the vacuum fixture to the fixed portion of the X carriage, and manually adjust the height above the material with a thumb-screw. Then, ...

Re: Custom 1/8" Collet for Makita RT0701C Trim Router
I installed my collet today. Testing with a broken end mill and a .001" dial indicator magnet mounted to my end plate, I see less than .001" deflection. Unless I did something wrong with my measurements, this looks VERY good! :D Very happy camper. Thanks for doing a quick review. I'm glad to hear y...
