Re: Are you going to update your S2 to the new X-Carve?

Yes, I really like the Quiet Cut spindle mount for the SO2. Having the X gantry further back helps to keep the spindle above the work area.
I am only cutting Balsa, Foam and 3/16 plywood for hobby usage so I do not need the power of the SO3.

Re: Thinking about building a Shapeoko

The movement of the axis is calculated by the number of steps per revolution and the pitch of the leadscrew. There is no difference in accuracy between mm and inches. Just read the assembly instrutions and you will find a lot of expanations why the machine is built the way it is. On buildlog.net the...

There are amazing things possible in foam, in F3P the indoor models are built from depron, the pockets milled out to save weight. This is one of my objectives with my SO2, dremel for milling. Complete model starts at 1,5 oz.

Re: Mechanical vs Full Kit..

I started with the mechanical kit and found it a very rewarding project to figure out all the electrics, to be honest I needed the help of the forum community to make my machine to work proprly. It all depends to what you want to do with the machine, the SO3 has all the improvements of the SO2 and m...

Re: Shapeoko suspected to miss 2nd coordinate

Thanks for the extensive support on this issue. It is always difficult to analyse such a partly wrong behaviour. It would be easier if it would not work at all. I ran 5 more cold (1 hr off) start up tests with GrblPanel and they all worked fine. With so many users I can only conclude that UGS does n...

Re: Shapeoko suspected to miss 2nd coordinate

It was after this reaction that I realised that while there are thousands of Grbl users I am not alone having this problem. I had the same happen today. Started the project with a long cut, 2nd coordinate went awry but then went back on track to finish the 5hr job with no issues. Thankfully, it coul...

Re: Shapeoko suspected to miss 2nd coordinate

Communication has two sides, sender and receiver. I would like to prove that the problem is at the gcode sender side and not the receiving Arduino. Not sending the 8th line is as bad as not processing line 8. As the problem occurs at the start of the day I simulated this by testing the start of my p...

Re: Shapeoko suspected to miss 2nd coordinate

GrblPanel moved correctly on a cold machine with the NC file that went wrong previously. When I tried to reproduce the effect just after this run with gcode sender I found no problems. So there is hope. When it is the sender it should reproduce when rebooting my PC? I have not tried that but if I ca...

Re: Shapeoko suspected to miss 2nd coordinate

It is hard to believe that the sender program is capable of leaving one coordinate out and not disturbing the rest of the toolpath. The laptime display came out perfectly, we used it this week-end and are very happy with it. Things are getting weird, I took the NC file and copied it to Xcel, then ma...
