Expanding Shapeoko 3

So I've been thinking about expanding my SO3 over the couple of weeks, while I don't have the room anytime soon since I'm in an apartment, I can use the time I have to plan out and gather the materials I need for when I do have the space. Since I have 2 extrusion rails from when I had to get them re...

Re: Using Shapeoko 3 to drill 1/8 thick aluminum.

Dont forget to do a full retract of the bit/end mill to facilitate chip evacuation. In Fusion 360 in the Drilling operation window, go to the third tab which will be cycle and click the cycle type drop down and choose deep drilling - full retract. While its not essential in 1/8, as you can use parti...

Dust Shoe Failure

So finished another project today. A dust shoe for the machine to limit the spread of swarf. As you can see it produces a ton of it, luckily my new rigid shopvac took care of it. Unfortunately while the precision was amazing, I failed to take into account the space behind the spindle connecting to t...

Re: Dangers of being impatient...

It is a GE 6 foot USB cable with a built in ferrite bead. Unfortunately though, I did have 2 more disconnects but those happened white I was shutting down the router. I haven't had anymore since I've been turning down the speed of the router before turning it off.

Dangers of being impatient...

So I bought my Shapeoko #85 in the first batch, waited the preorder time and finally got my machine around 6 months later. After some issues from the shipping company and issues with the parts, I had to but it on the back-burner for another 5 or 6 months because of problems in life. Now today i fina...

Skewed X axis

So I currently have an issue with my machine. The bed of the machine is straight, maybe not as square as I would like but seems square enough. Problem is, the X-axis is skewed on one side by about a millimeter or two. If I bring the gantry completely to the front the left side plate will make contac...

Re: Increasing the X-axis Plate Height

Thanks guys, I'll just wait on the 4th axis until I enlarge my machine to 10 x 5, or create a standalone rotary mill. So when I get more money to upgrade I'll have the plates made, and post back on its ability.

Re: Sound Enclosure

Thinking something like this with the triangular pieces. My thought is, With the triangles covered in a dense rubber or foam and at the angle that they are they might deflect the sound waves enough that they lessen. plus with the increase of the height of them on top of the double layered walls of t...

Re: Sound Enclosure

I had a thought. Would long triangular straps of wood attached vertically on the inside walls of the inner box help deflect sound waves, similar to how baffles work?

Re: Sound Enclosure

I was looking at the mineral wool boards on amazon, if i increase the outer box dimemsions by 2 inches in the relevant direction i can add in 2 inch slabs of the stuff.
