Re: SO3 Servo Conversion? Teknic ClearPath?

Great! Please let me know how it goes! I have a number of large 5' x 10' CNC routers I'd like to modernize, so this is approach is looking like a good candidate. I've built a GRBL PCB that mates with a PI, which I'd like to use with these motors. With the SO3, I have issues when I try to plunge into...

Re: Carbide 3D blog on Grbl 1.1

Is the dead simple method "stream.py" still the preferred method for sending G-Code over? That's still officially supported?

Re: SO3 Servo Conversion? Teknic ClearPath?

Yeah those closed loop controllers are cool. I still think the added torque would be sweet. I've seen a few videos now talking about how much mechanical advantage is lost due to belts vs ballscrews, but I love how fast the Z Axis on the SO3 is (for V bit work it's so cool). If we could have torque a...

This is great. I'm looking to add hall effect homing to 3 different machines. Keep us informed how it goes!

SO3 Servo Conversion? Teknic ClearPath?

Hey has anyone seen these yet? Looks like you could swap the NEMA 23's on the SO3 for these guys: https://www.teknic.com/products/clearpath-brushless-dc-servo-motors/clearpath-sd/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gz9mZ5fBwUM#t=02m00s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRURwDFvdAs Obviously you'd have to...

Re: USB super flaky

I had this issue like crazy when I first got my machine. For that reason, I designed and now use an RS-232 PCB. It's nothing too fancy: Ubuntu Laptop -> COM Port -> Serial Cable -> MAX232 Chip -> Atmega328p (w/ GRBL installed) -> Sparkfun Big Easy Drivers -> Stepper Motors Haven't had an issue ever ...

Re: DWP611 Dust Shoe - Files and Photos

Yep! I do still have them: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/gnjwvoa9rjika38/AAAPD1Li7mj2GFtxOkjemcBGa?dl=0 There you be! I didn't do too much more with this design, as my mill is now in a plexiglass box with a incoming port and major dust extraction. Chips/dust just fly straight out the backside of the ma...

Re: SO3 - Debris in the Z-Axis?

Good tip about the Z-Axis Driver Chip. I have switched over to my own PCB and haven't spent a lot of time setting the current settings on the driver chips (I'm using sparkfun's Big Easy Drivers). I'll make sure the Z-Axis is not underpowered or overpowered. I have 1 big fan, but probably should add ...
