Looks great - look forward to seeing your first project! I have a standard SO3 & I quickly found the limitations of 16x16. One day I'll get the xxl expansion kit. Let us know how it works out.

Laminated wood

I just bought some grey laminate to make some knife scales.

The eBay seller suggested cutting the blanks on a diagonal to get the desired grain pattern. This is the look in going for:


Has anyone worked with this type laminate? Any suggestions?

As others have stated, the cutting area dimensions are a bit odd. I wonder what criteria prevented a more "conventional" size? While 33"x33" is still less than I personally would have liked, it's certainly better than the standard S3 and priced reasonably, compared to other machines in this class, ...
