Re: Aluminum 5754 any good?

How did this go? Interested in hearing your opinions of the result. :) Hi, I lent the electronics for an arts project, and this was before completing the mechanical assembly of my eShapeoko :( But the Aluminum is sitting right here, waiting. I'll see if I can post a photo of its surface later today...

Re: Shapeoko in Portugal

(...) some of the aluminium plates comes packaged in pairs. You are absolutely right, the item quantity describes "1 Lote de 3", so it's probably supplied in packs of 3. One could easily think of opening a micro-store, but there are so many variations of each product :) I think a "Groupon" purchase...

Re: Shapeoko in Portugal

Thanks for pointing them out. I do know they exist, as an electronics store much like Mouser and Farnell, but I rarely check-in. Their site is not in Portuguese, it's 95%-Spanish-5%-Portuguese. Finding an item isn't so hard - depending on the techincal keywords required to find it - and I think I fo...

Re: Shapeoko in Portugal

parcel2go.com gave me a quote that's *less than half* the quotes I have here. And I've contacted four other couriers. Thank you so much. It's a great resource! With that much of a difference I may order from them after all. As long as they're willing to print the shipping label and stick it to the p...

Re: Shapeoko in Portugal

Updated the list. New additions to acrylic, PVC, aluminum. http://www.aluminiumwarehouse.co.uk/ is for consumers living in the UK. The company will sell to other countries, but communication happens outside the online store, with added costs (I prefer not to go into much detail on this, because it's...

Re: Aluminum 5754 any good?

Guys...
After long late night discussions and talking with no less than 24 people from 21 companies...
I'm going forward with the allegedly less machinable alloy, 5083 H111. This is not a drill. (sorry for the pun)
It's crazy the disparity of opinions I've heard. I have to see for myself.

Re: Aluminum 5754 any good?

Hi again, I decided not to go forward with this experiment ( EDIT: see the post below ) , because the alloys they have - 5083 and 5754 - both come in H111 temper. This is just slightly work hardened (as stated in the AALCO website) , which is almost identical to no tempering at all. H111 is too soft...

Aluminum 5754 any good?

Hi there,

A local supplier has permanent stock of 5754 Aluminium plates (largest possible dimensions: 2x1 meters, thickness: 0.5-20.0mm).

Anyone with experience to tell if it's worth a try?

Re: Okay to list 370 oz. in. NEMA23 motors?

Thanks for your input. I've checked out some specs and it seems the only other difference is the shaft diameter, 8mm (5/16" ?) instead of 6.35mm (1/4").
