Re: ACME screw upgrade for Shapeoko Z-Axis

I'd like this upgrade if the motor block had holes for both the nema 17 and the nema 23

I suppose I can just build my own nema23 block.

Re: Best Computer for LinuxCNC and Connecting to Stepper Dri

talking to some people at the Michigan CNC conference, parallel port cards do make a difference. I'd research the card before buying it. If people on CNCzone.com have had luck with it, you should be fine. I've had a laptop that "kind of worked" but that's just not good enough for CNC work. I have tw...

Re: OpenROV

I've been paying attention to this project as well. I'd love to build one just for the heck of it.

edy555: it looks like you're getting a fair amount of backlash at this speed. You'll need to remember that when you're actually cutting something, especially with the weight of the tool which will give you more issues with inertia stretching the belts.

Re: Z axis improvement

How do you get the spiral flexible part cut? Is that with a band saw? I've always wondered that.

Looks nice, I knew that the threads were the problem on mine. I've seen some people grind them off, a lathe does seem like a better answer.

Any reason we can't use a pro driver like Gecko?

I use the gecko 540, I've also had the cheaper boards in the past.. I really like the 540, I don't think I'd go back $200 is a good deal, if you don't buy it, I just might :)

Re: Alignment holes for a two sides part.

From the picture it appears to be 2 paint stirrers butted together, then a space, then two more paint stirrers. Could that be true? After looking at it for a little bit, that was the conclusion I came to as well... I would like to know how they built it, and I'd be interested in trying that. A very...

Re: Alignment holes for a two sides part.

q2) What kind of bits do you use to drill through acrylic and wood at the same time? (end-mills don't plunge so well into acrylic and I ran into problem when trying this.) q3) how are people clamping things to their board, something like 3/8" acrylic I've been drilling a couple holes in it and scre...
