Re: Expanding S03 to XL

Well, the holes on the gantry on the standard 03 were never correct (they were way too big), to the point where the control board didn't stay on so using that is not an option. I had hoped that the expansion had new holes that were correct, but I guess that was not the case. I put a 2' x 4' x 3/4" M...

Expanding S03 to XL

I bought the XL expansion pack, but couldn't find instructions to do the conversion. However, I've gotten through most of it following the assembly doc for the XXL. My main question is: Where do I mount the control board. The XXL has it on one side, but there are no mounting holes for it on any extr...

Re: Laser Eye Protection

Did some research on this..... When ordering a laser, you really need to understand what you are getting for protection to make sure you are protected. For my Laser (450nm, 2.8Watt) I got goggles that protect against light wavelengths 190-540nm&800-1700nm and with an Optical Density of 5 for the wav...

Laser Eye Protection

Because these lasers can cause eye damage, I wonder if anyone has a recommendation for laser protection goggles. The laser I got was a 2.8 watt 450nm laser. I've seen some goggles that specify CO2 lasers, diodes or other types of lasers, but does that matter? I thought wavelength is what mattered th...

Re: Upgraded To XL or XXL SO3 Users

I suppose I didn't realize that the reason I haven't gotten my XL expansion was because they hadn't started shipping any expansion packs out yet. I need to visit the forums more often I guess, to keep up on the news. BTW, I know I've seen it somewhere, but do any of you know what the cutting area is...

Re: Help a Laser Dummy

How important is the focusable laser.

I am seriously contemplating a 3.5w laser, but don't find any that have a focusable lense (that I can tell). I find a bunch of 2.5 and 2.8 watt lasers that are focusable.

Re: Help a Laser Dummy

FWIW, we do have a bit on the wiki on this --- http://www.shapeoko.com/wiki/index.php/Laser_Cutter --- but it would be great to have more. Really need to find the time to finish up some pending projects (rebuilding my SO1, getting my Ordbot working w/ an Azteeg X5 mini v2 and Viki 2 LCD, clearing t...

Help a Laser Dummy

So I just ordered the XL expansion pack....but I also want to add a laser etched (or cutter). Wanting to get the biggest bang for my buck, I am thinking 2.5 watt, 445nm is probably what I'll end up with. Although, for cutting purposes, I want the 3.5 watt laser. I know that I need a laser with a TTL...

Re: Who has Upgraded their Z Axis?

Who as upgraded thier Z-Axis to a C-Beam Liniar Actuator? How do you like it? I am putting this on my list of updates that I am going to be doing on my machine. http://openbuildspartstore.com/c-beam-linear-actuator-bundle/ I might be a little dense, but how exactly would this upgrade it? I too woul...
