Cleaning bits
HI all, I had a number of bits with blacken burn marks and hardened/baked on debris. They may be a bit blunted, but still have life but were marking the material I am milling with burn marks from the baked on debris. I decided to try putting some detergent / degreaser in an ultrasonic cleaner (like ...

My setup and usig BCNC
Hi all It's been a while. I've been occupied with my laser cutter of recent months but came back to my ShapeOko3. I had a number of problems in the past, with Z Axis issues and trying to figure out BCNC with working positions. I've solved them now, and thought I's share a rambling video as I found i...

ShapeOko 3 - Homing - Touch plate and tweaks summary
Hi All
A made a quick video of my tweaks/mods to the ShakeOko3, and how I do homing and using a touch plate using bCNC.
(forgot to talk about the laser addition - don't use it much now - I have a 100w laser cutter!).

Programming 2.4d Board
Hi all I have upgraded my early machine with a v2.4d board. I could find much (any) info on it and was having trouble uploading grbl, and new config.h. It wouldn't upload with either Arduino or XLoader and was getting an avrdude communication error. "avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not respond...

Re: Y+ and X- cut clean, Y- and X+ are rough? SO3 HDPE
Yeah that would explain it, the bit will bite and pull the Z plate forward (Y-) and cause a stepping in the cut. Other than making sure the v-wheels are tight, a number of us (me included) found the v-wheel where moving laterally on the bearing. e,g the plastic v-wheel will move front/back on the 2 ...

Re: Y+ and X- cut clean, Y- and X+ are rough? SO3 HDPE
A bit hard to see what is going on, I had Y- issues caused by the Z plate flexing (and Z bearings moving laterally)

Re: X,Y,Z Stops and mounting
Final set up now - and it's awesome. I have limit switches with front, left, bottom as 0,0,0. And I have a X, Y homing 1st, so the Z touch plate can be permanently mounted on the waste board. I Just need to lift Z axis before homing to make sure it clears the material and issue $H. I'm very happy wi...

Re: Documented my mods and tweaks
I noticed that also, but you can get 10W solid state, but after some reading since I posted that link they are very overdriven and tend to have very short lives. For the price you'd be way better off getting a cheap CO2 cutter off ebay/aliexpress
