Re: Additive Aerospace Limit Switches and new Z-Axis plate

Hi Guys,

Just noticed the thread.

Looks like my assembly of the machine also has the router rotated at 45deg, hence why I never noticed the problem.

Debating whether to increase the C cutout of the Z axis, but I'm afraid it will affect the rigidity of the part too much.

Re: Whats the best deal on 3d printers these days?

I design 3D printers for a living. Get a Printrbot if you are looking under 1k. They are a decent company which support their products, and make a good printer for that price range. You can get cheaper printers which work for a little while, but if you plan to do more than 200hrs of printing , sprin...

Re: Would you sell your shapeoko for a mill?

You would be trading work envelope for accuracy and material capability.

Much better accuracy with a mill and you can use real vices/cut steel.

Great!

If you wouldn't mind, what are the proper wire distances for the XL? I've had a few requests for XL, but only have the standard version to measure myself.

Non-conductive Z probe

I'm just finishing up a Z probe which mounts in the spindle, which doesn't require a conductive surface to operate. It's not for detailed probing, but for leveling large flat non-conductive work pieces for engraving and v-carving. I think the max it will currently work with is up to 6deg off of hori...

Re: Aluminum: is bigger or smaller bit better?

I need to machine some 3/4" dia holes in 0.070"-thick aluminum. I will use the fastest router speed setting and a very slow feed (I'm thinking 5 IPM?) and low DPP (I'm thinking 0.005"?). But I have the choice of using 1/4, 1/8, or 5/64" endmills. (I'd prefer to use one of the first two, as the thir...

Re: Aluminum Fun :-(

1/8" carbide, 33k rpm, 30 ipm, 0.05" stepover, 0.02" doc for adaptive clearing.

10IPM if you are taking full width passes.

I have used these settings often with excellent success.

What are the settings you are using right now that failed, and how did it fail? I cant really tell from the video.

Re: Why you should not run unattended

I try not to leave machines unattended but sometimes you need to get another cup of coffee or bathroom break. I put a remote wifi camera in my shop that I can view on my phone. The room is also equipped with several fire extinguishers and smoke alarms. Now that I have a laser cutter, it is very imp...
