Re: New guy here. Lots of questions

Hi Brad, Will has answered most of your questions, but I will just throw in my experience as there hasn't been a huge response Laptop -----Can I pick up any windows based laptop under a couple hundred bucks? Will a touch screen make it easier to use the software? Id like to play with software in the...

Re: Extend Wiring on SO3

Re: software choices

Vcarve pro (for design, and creating Gcode) and Carbide motion ( to control your machine and send Gcode to it - it is free) are the only two programs you need to make almost anything you could want on your shapeoko. Carbide Create(for design and creating Gcode - also free) is a great simple software...

Re: Bravo Carbide3d

Haha, glad to hear you, and(for the most part) your machine are ok. When I was first looking at getting into CNC routers I read a line that has stuck with me "if you tell a computer to stupid, it will stupid". I also cannot give enough gratitude to the C3D guys, I have dealt with Jorge mainly. They ...

Re: Z-axis not smooth, feels notched at a point.

Look down the top of your Carriage and see if there are any bolts hitting each other. I had this same notch, and that's what it was. I just filed a couple of millimetres off one of them so they passed without hitting. I also waay overtightened my V wheels the first time, and ran it like that for a l...

Re: Router interference\Spindle size for SO3

I did try running a cable from the router mount to the bolt that holds the arduino cover on, without any change in results, but maybe I'll give it another shot and hook it up to the actual pcb mount and see if that helps. At this stage it can't hurt

Re: Shapeoko3 #1331 - Europe, The Netherlands

I love your idea, Its a great way around having to adjust everything for different sized endmills. It's a very tidy solution

Do you lose any travel on the gantry? / Y-axis? It's hard to tell from the pictures if it sticks out past the z-plate

Re: Brush for dust shoe in europe

I tried brush strip and it was also stopping the Z axis plunging down. I ended up buying the cheapest, most basic foam mousepad I could find. It has a thin layer of plastic on one side, which gives it enough strength to hold its shape, but it moves easily over the material. And they cost about $5 ea...

Re: Router interference\Spindle size for SO3

I'm running a similar setup, 2.3 board & Makita. Since I got the 2.3 board I have not had any disconnects (but I did no do any supper long jobs). I did not do any complicated stuff, no special grounding etc.. The only thing I can think of being different are: - I twisted all motor cables - I run fr...
