New problems with Shapeoko

I have been using my SO3 no problem for the past year, but just dusted it off for the first time in a month. I'm making a Route 66 sign... Fusion 360 -> UGS. Capture.PNG I ran a 1/16" contour bit to make crisp corners, then I ran a 1/4" pocket to clear everything - what you see cut is on it's first ...

Re: Size of cuts not accurate

The measured 'slots' that cuts the F Contour above read weirdly. The slots are 0.25" deep with 0.130 stepdowns. The horizontal lines are almost all 0.063" wide, while the vertical slot measures from 0.062" to 0.070". Also, I'm curious which offsets I use since the ratios go either way depending on t...

Re: Size of cuts not accurate

Thanks for the advice. I confirmed: Frame is square. Gantry runs within 0.003 on y-axis on both sides. Spindle is square to 0.003 inch to a freshly-faced board. Drill bit measures exactly 0.0625". Here's the latest test: - I left no stock on either cut. F on F.PNG Result: FonF.PNG And the resulting ...

Size of cuts not accurate

FYI I am using Fusion 360 software into UGS. I am trying to cut out some letters via a contour cut and then inlay them into a corresponding pocket. Here's what I'm starting with... Re: Removing aluminum tabs

Hey, cool font on those numbers... May I ask what it is?

Also, I just started dabbing in Al milling. Can you give me an idea with what bits and milling parameters you have been successful?

In Fusion 360 when you are performing a 2D Contour, you can add tabs at distance or at points. It's on the Geometry Tab...

Re: Problems milling aluminum 6061

Well, I had success after getting some Al-specific bits from ebay. I ended up using this $12 guy below: 1/8" carbide endmill for aluminum milling, coated, 3 flute Destiny Tool V30806S s-l1600.jpg http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-8-carbide-endmill-for-aluminum-milling-coated-3-flute-Destiny-Tool-V30806S-/15...

Re: Cubicle Name Plates

These look awesome! If you don't mind me asking, how much post process finishing did you have to do(sanding, filling, etc.)? Only some minor sanding with 120 grit removed the lines around the letters. Toward the beginning of the overall project, the letters had little fuzz, and toward the end, ther...

Problems milling aluminum 6061

So, I'm trying to recreate this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfYc35KeTEY My basic part is coming from 1/4" 6061 stock, and I'm trying to cut a simple circle. And all I end up with after about 30 seconds of milling is melted aluminum stuck to my 1/4" end mill after 20 seconds of cutting and then ...
