Actually, you should be fine w/ Carbide 3D Shapeoko.

A harder, finer-grained hardwood will help, as will using advanced V carving (if you have a BitSetter), or see:

Yes, the v2 should use the same connector, so would still require a control board with the BitRunner connector. I believe the big change will be having the same sort of enclosure as is used for the current controller: https://docs.carbide3d.com/assembly/low-profile-housing/ it's rather over-engineer...

It is designed to set the tool length offset after a tool change --- insofar as doing that accurately keeps one from cutting into the wasteboard, yes it does.

If your controller doesn't have a BitRunner connector (6-pin thing on the opposite side of the power/USB) then you'll need a new controller.

The v1 BitRunner was supposed to be a limited thing (currently in stock), but we did a second batch, and are working up a v2.

To expand on your answer --- any endmill which is either narrow enough to fit on the button (a bit less than 11mm diameter) or which has structure at the center even with the cutting edge will work.
