Re: Headless Raspberry Pi (or better suggestions!)

Finally got a little time this morning and tried it. Came up with a lot of words that don't currently mean much to me, in the context of computing :?
Thanks for the help, will Google further to try and find more info on the subject.

Re: Will grbl run a beefier machine okay?

@cvoinescu: Probably a little of both. There is only so much more that I can cram into the 328p, and there will likely have to be some heavy-handed executive decisions on what goes in and what doesn't. But, the critical stuff will go in, at least in a function capacity. Please excuse my ignorance, ...

man ln
for the man page on the ln command which will explain to you how to create a link using that command.
Thanks, I'll have a pop at that if I get up early enough tomorrow morning!

I've tried that with several things that I wanted a desktop shortcut for, doesn't seem to work.
WillAdams wrote:If not that, make a symlink using the command line: man ln
So I just type "man ln" in a terminal and it will create a shortcut for UGS ?

Re: How to control the SO3? Oh, so many ways...

Nice in theory. But my laptop and PC are both in my office - SO3 is in the garage. Not terribly effective in setting up the job (homing, zeroing, probing for Z). You could always add a small, cheap screen for the RPi. That's what I intend to do, I want to work at home like I do at work - all CAD/CA...

Re: Headless Raspberry Pi (or better suggestions!)

OK - I should really make this a tutorial on the wiki or something when I get time (and an account), but for now, here's the simplest way I can describe it... Thank you Shook, as a total programming/Rpi/Arduino noob I sincerely appreciate the patience and help from people such as yourself. I follow...

Re: New minimal control software: RasPyCNCController

Yes, there are easier ways... I tried renaming my g code with a lower case .nc file extension and it worked! I'm currently using MasterCam, it automatically saves g code with an upper case .NC file extension. Still stuck with the screen icon problem, I've tried sudo echo '#!/bin/bash' >/usr/local/b...

Re: New minimal control software: RasPyCNCController

At which point does it say that? Immediately after entering the first line: sudo echo '#!/bin/bash' Uhm, can you please try with a .nc (small, not capital) extension? It might be case sensitive, in which case it would be a bug which I can easily fix. I'll try it first thing in the morning (I can't ...

Re: Headless Raspberry Pi (or better suggestions!)

Hmmm, tried copy/pasting the start.sh file to a terminal, doesn't seem to like that either.

Re: New minimal control software: RasPyCNCController

Yes, there are easier ways. The cd command is used to navigate to the directory (folder, as they are called under windows, if you are more familiar with that) where the software was downloaded to. Assuming that you ran all the commands above from your home directory, which is the default, you can t...
