Re: Fusion360 gcode: Stange Plunging on Contour Cut

The Z values at the beginning of your code look ok, although the code itself is a bit odd... the first CCW arc is composed of short line segments, the second CW arc is alternating short lines and arcs. In terms of your plunging problem, I would check first that your Z motor parameters are correct, t...

Re: Interactive Control of Shapeoko 2

Cool... I was also thinking of doing something like this for scanning 4x5 up to 8x10 film. One thing to be aware of is that the stepper motors vibrate a little when energized and holding, so it would be good to be able to de-energize them at the start of your vibration damping period. You could prob...

Re: Calibration / accuracy

Why no finishing cut and different op type on the bottom piece? Maybe the lack of finishing cut is causing more deflection in the end mill, with your contour coming out slightly oversize compared to the top.

Nice work!

Limit Switch Mounting for X and Y

Just wanted to share how I mounted the X and Y limit switches on my SO2... I made these mounts so that I could use the extrusion slot to fasten and position the switches where I wanted, and set them up so that they trip a few millimeters before the V wheel hits the belt anchor. I went with this conf...

Yes, it's on the axis setup tabs. On the edge version I'm using the setting didn't seem to stick at first... If so, try disconnecting and reconnecting to the tiny g board

Re: Cutter flute lenght for Aluminum

Being ground from the shank, the cutting edges are a little smaller in diameter than the shank size, so you can get some rubbing. You could make an extra pass on the top 1/8 to create some relief.

Re: How to get an SO2 square?

I had a similar experience to you with the X rails. Some of the end cuts appear to not be totally flat, as well as the rails varying slightly in length - like everything else, there are tolerances in the cutting process. My X rails are bolted together for additional stiffness which turned out to be ...

Re: Brass Standoff Doesn't Fit

I'm not using the kit motors, but I found the standoff threads to be too tight to even start in my motors. I ran a die over the threads which fixed that issue, although the threads still bottom out in the motor.

Re: tips for tapping the MakerSlide

There are three separate types of taps in the machining world. Or, rather, three with straight flutes, and lots more specialized ones. * tapered tap * plug tap * bottom tap Most of your hardware store taps are tapered just like @ing showed. They have about 7 threads in the taper part before they ge...

Re: When is batch 2 shipping?

Huh... I ordered the mechanical kit on 11/15/2013 and nothing... Did you get an initial order confirmation? Do all the usual stuff (check spam folder....) and then if need be, contact Inventables customer service. Yes, I emailed last Friday and the response was that they were getting the list of or...
