Plasma Cutter Success!

Hello all. I've been working on converting my Shapeoko 1 to a plasma cutter off and on for about a year now. I've finally gotten some success and was able to cut out a tiny sign (150mm x 75mm) as shown below. IMG_0717.jpg Improvements to the cut quality are still in progress, but I'm pretty happy wi...

Looks really good. What was your method for filling the toolpath with paint?

Re: German Football Team Emblem

It definitely would be possible, though the only experience I have with running multiple operations on the same piece has been with me picking a sharp corner to start the next operation on, and then eyeballing until the endmill looks centered above that point. I don't think that level of precision w...

Re: German Football Team Emblem

It's 6.75 inches in diameter. Unfortunately it took about 5 hours to run the entire job due to the small details on the eagle that forced me to use a 0.8mm endmill instead of a larger one.

German Football Team Emblem

My old roommate from college is German so I thought it would be fun to make a sign of the national team's emblem and send it to him. Turned out decent enough. image.jpeg Workflow: -Google Image Search -Inkscape Image to DXF -CAMBAM DXF to GCode -Milled out of 3/4" Pine using 0.8mm endmill from http:...

Re: Wedding sign

Looks really good! I wonder what would happen if you put all of the masking tape on before milling. Could possibly avoid a lot of precise taping.

Re: Typical Stiffness Survey

Where is the attachment point for where you are pulling? Do you have the dual y-axis motors? It seems to me like for the stock shapeoko size that eliminating slop is much more critical than stiffening the axes.

Re: Accuracy ? Let's try to measure it

Couple questions regarding the error from the first command when it's starting at 0. Have you tried measuring from different starting position? When you're measuring 0 with that instrument, is the dial indicating 0mm? Perhaps the instrument is nonlinear near its extremes.

Re: Wedding sign

Excellent work! Looks very nice. How did you accomplish the lettering size that you provided? Do you have extended axes beyond stock ShapeOko? Or did you move the piece of Maple every now and then?

Re: Wedding sign

I'm trying to do something slightly different also as a wedding gift to my brother. Are you going to post pics when it's finished? Excited to see the finished product.
