You make a good point about the z acting as a lever. It has always been fairly clear that the shapeoko could plunge below its own height and could therefor be raised a bit to get cutting ability either through placing oversized materials below it or by simply creating more room for z cutting. For some reason reading about this again has given me an id...

There would be nothing stopping you from securing your spoil board to the tslot or using wood blocks secured to tslot to clamp your work piece, but you can't exactly mill the extrusion flat so you might have to work around that.

You might take a look through the old shapeoko google group that was used before this forum was created. I recall at least some discussion about using multiple lengths of 40mm X 80mm (I think) extrusion to create a tslot work surface to secure projects to.
