Re: Shapeoko in the science classroom - advice/expertise nee

I think this is an awesome idea and a great way to introduce students to lab automation, considering that liquid handlers can cost up to hundreds of thousands of dollars. It's an interesting field, capturing a wide range of expertise, chemists, biologists, and mechanical, electrical, and computer en...

Re: weird z axis sound with G1 lines

Sounds like an old dot matrix or floppy drive  possibly some resonance between it and the machine?

Re: Which is the best PCB fabrication company?

Here's a post by the creator of the Teensy with a comparison between a few shops. Not an exhaustive list by any means, but has some data on quality for a handful of them.

Re: Max's Build - a comedy of errors.

Max your brackets are awesome! I've been wondering how I would mount limit switches and the drag chain I just got in the mail. Would you mind posting the design (sketchup I think?) file? I'm interested in trying to cut them out on the 'oko. Are your motors nema 17?

Re: Is the z motor mount delrin?

IC and I both have older machines with the white z mounts. From build log pictures it seems like some of the newer machines have a black plastic mount. I don't know if it's still the same material or not.

Re: A site like Thingiverse for CNC CAD Models?

The biggest two problems I see with the Thingiverse CNC section are that a lot of the "things" are actually printed items that are parts of CNC machines, and that users don't give enough directions (feed rates etc). It seems that the second may actually be covered by comments in the geode files, and...

The grblshield by Synthetos is also well regarded. https://www.synthetos.com/

Re: Is the z motor mount delrin?

Hi Willo, It is indeed Delrin. -Edward I stand corrected :) Does the Delrin offer advantages over UHMW for a motor mount? I thought the low coefficient of friction was Delrin's main advantage, and it doesn't seem like the motor mount requires this. Just curious, IANA materials engineer, so I'm new ...

Re: Is the z motor mount delrin?

I think it may be HDPE or UHMW, some sort of polyethylene

Re: Cooling the GRBLshield v3 (Inventables Full/Premium #2)

My analog-circuit-foo is awful (computer science / CE background, every idiot can count to 1 kinda stuff ;)) but I think you should be able to scale down to 5 or 12 volts from your 24 with just a zener diode and a resistor. Warning: Literally everything I know about zener diodes comes from this shor...
