Re: What are people using for CAD / CAM design work?

Well, here's my effort so far: https://bitbucket.org/anthonyb/python-gcode/ It does a fair bit of stuff so far - drill holes, mill lines, rectangles with inside and outside profiles, filled rectangles (pockets?) and dogbones (I think that's the term - so you can insert rectangles without having to w...

Re: What are people using for CAD / CAM design work?

I've found this aspect so frustrating I've been reduced to hand-coding G-code and have been considering coding up a drawing front-end using Processing. Well, I'm currently coding up a Python script to handle simple layouts (eg. cnc.rectangle((10,10), (20,20), depth=5, offset='outside') , that sort ...

Re: Autodesk 123D CNC Utility

No, it prompted me on where to store the files, but when I checked that directory... nothing. I'll try creating an account and see if that make a difference.

Re: Autodesk 123D CNC Utility

Hmm, just gave it a try, and it looks pretty fancy but I couldn't get any gcode out of it.

Perhaps you need to have the Shopbot software installed for it to work?

Re: My sort-of buildlog

Well, I've set up the zip ties. I didn't do anything fancy like that - just filed out the slots on the dinguses and hooked them up. Wasn't too hard - took about an hour or so yesterday evening. The belts are pretty tight, but if they loosen too much I can always revisit them - zip ties are pretty ch...

What are people using for CAD / CAM design work?

Hi All, I'm having some trouble finding a decent CAD and/or CAM package that works for me. My initial criteria: reasonably easy to use, although I'm tech savvy (programmer/sysadmin/vim user), so some learning curve in exchange for power is ok. open source, free, cheap, in that order runs under Linux...

My sort-of buildlog

Hi All, I didn't really keep any notes while building, so this is a more-or-less from memory recollection :) I got the full kit from Inventables, but not the whole premium package Good bits: I've wanted some sort of CNC thingo for quite a while, I think since I started reading Make and found the gue...
