Re: More OrdBot Parts

I'd like to know your opinion of the qu-bd extruder. I'm looking to replace the Wades on my Prusa. The filament keeps stripping.

Re: What CAD tools do you use?

Just another note with regard to Autodesk. You can get them for free if you're a FIRST robotics mentor. http://www.usfirst.org/ I'm one and it is very rewarding. Almost any team would appreciate the skills of the people on this forum.

Re: Shapeoko cutting letters slightly skewed, warped

Try adjusting the clamping force on the eccentric nuts. Also, reduce your speed. My initial sharpie "hello world" gcode runs were severely warped.

Re: CamBam, what's so special ?

You can also download a 40 use full function demo. Give it a try. In the scheme of this hobby, it is very inexpensive. You'll spend more on endmills and sheet material.

Re: PyCAM on Mac OS X

Which directory did you extract pycam into?

When you first start terminal, your working directory is /Users/username (username is replace with your username). You need to change your working directory to where you extracted pycam. To do that, use the "cd directory_to_pycam".

Re: LinuxCNC Basic Explanation..?

Do you have a link for using steppers with encoders on LinuxCNC? My steppers have quadrature encoders and this would be great.

How much filament?

I started with 3 1 pound coils of 3mm ABS and PLA. Used most of 1 lb calibrating. (I had a few mis-starts). Used the second playing around. About 5 fist sized objects and a ton thumb sized. I'd say 1lb lasts a week or two of experimenting for a couples hours a night.

Extruders

Get a Greg's if you can. Much easier. The extruder is the weak point of my prusa. Actually PLA not sticking to my HBP is. Finally got blue tape.

Getting a complete solution is nice to avoid variables. My problems have been on the wade extruder. Is was a high quality print. Some is just off.

Backlash?

Did you also go from a printed gear to a better one? That would explain the improvement too.

Extruders

You can get the printed extruder parts easily on eBay. I can highly recommend the makergear hotend. I have one with the 0.5 mm nozzle. It prints easily but I wish resolution was better. Just haven't gotten around to ordering a 0.35. This is on a prusa.
