Re: Edward's S2 Enclosure

I'll be decoupling my noisemakers from the enclosure structure using compartmentalized pneumatic shock absorption panels.

Re: GRBL releases on GitHub

The probe work is being done on the dev branch, right?

Re: Openbuilds opinions

But now that I think about it you're referring to v-slot, and not openrail (I think of it as v-rail). As far as the http://openbuildspartstore.com/v-slot-20-x-20mm/ I'm not sure as I haven't used it. My concern with it would be keeping debris away from the wheels, but if you add some debris guards ...

Re: E-Stop gShield and Spindle relay

It's not well documented, but it looks like the power source is jumperable; but even when drawing from the Arduino, I think it takes a connection to the Arduino's VCC to power the relays. If powering the Arduino via USB, that's going to be a no-go with a 100mA port.

Re: Router speed control circuit question

Thanks,

I checked the resistance, and it came out to less than an Ohm (and less that the resistance in the wire between the switch and the switched outlet). Using just the hot wire from the speed controller output connected to the hot wire to the switched outlet, everything seems to work fine.

Effects of spindle mass

I am trying to get a conceptual grip on how the mass of the spindle affects the machine, mostly in the context of the zone where big becomes too big. It seems like there's the obvious maximum where the static weight of the spindle causes significant (define that as you will) deflection of the struct...

Re: soundproofing enclosures?

Looking at the results of FattyMatty earlier in the thread with the iPad, that can't be accurate. He measured just the running spindle without enclosure @95 db (100db is a jack hammer at 1 meter), then closed the cover, started milling and measured 58 db where 60 db is a TV set using home volume at...

Re: E-Stop gShield and Spindle relay

The specs on the linked relay list a trigger load of 15-20 mA, and it's looks like some of the SSRs draw less than 10 mA; so, the need for the external power source may vary. I'm basing this on looking at spec sheets, not actual experience, so I could be misinterpreting something. I'm wiring my E-St...

Router speed control circuit question

I am wiring up an enclosure with several externally switched 110V outlets inside. Most are pretty straight-forward; lights, vacuum, and compressor have outlets with a common neutral and ground, and separate line wires switched through their respective switches. Then there's the outlet for the spindl...

Re: soundproofing enclosures?

I found a few examples out there of people building enclosures for air compressors, which generate a fair amount of waste heat. They all resorted to the use of fan-driven ventilation through baffles lined with sound deadening/diffusing material. It will be interesting to see what the sound levels ar...
