Re: Aluminum Hold Downs

I have been cutting alum at .002-.004 in. at between 30-40 in/min with very good results. Sounds very similar. Converting to millimeters: 0.0508mm - 0.1016mm and 762mm/min and 1016mm/min. Thinking through this a bit further: if I went down to 0.05mm I should be able to safely go to 1120mm/min. When...

Re: Aluminum Hold Downs

Cut three more. http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a64/Droperer/IMG_20160214_102835275.jpg I had been cutting at 0.2mm depth per pass at 140 mm/min with a 4 flute high speed steel endmill. Out of curiousity, I had heard that aluminum should be cut extremely shallow and extremely fast, they even made t...

Re: Oak Center Cap Prototype

Oh cool thanks for the info. I think it looks really good as it is. I suppose you could sand the cusps quite easily, but the milling pattern looks cool too. I've not used meshcam but sounds good. I use delcam feature cam, which is really easy to use. It has a wizard which takes you through step by ...

Aluminum Hold Downs

Inspired by NEO7CNC (his youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRcZL-xSVg55-na811vMgGA) I hunted around for a rectangular "stair-step" looking thing, which I found out was part of a clamping kit, which I bought ($48 I think): http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a64/Droperer/Mobile%20Uploads...

Re: Oak Center Cap Prototype

Thanks guys, hoping to have an update in the nest 1-3 weeks. I've been busier than ever. @aidenwolf For the top side filleted edge, I did three steps in MeshCAM: 1. Roughed with a 4-flute 1/8 square end mill. 2. Inside 'Toolpath Parameters', under the 'Finish' section, I did 'Cut Along X' at like 50...

Re: Vacuum Table!

Awesome! I'd love to see it in action, any videos?

I was also kind of curious, if your material doesn't cover all the holes, is it still effective?

Oak Center Cap Prototype

This is the first of what will probably be a few versions, as there isn't much clearance between the wheel and everything else behind it. The intent is to cut this out of 3/8 Aluminum in the end, with either HDPE clips that are bolted on or Aluminum clips that are welded on. It's hard to say, there ...

I decided it was time to make some improvements! http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a64/Droperer/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20160101_151756987_HDR.jpg http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a64/Droperer/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20160102_174654857.jpg http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a64/Droperer/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_...

Re: Project Shapeoko HD

Hey Louis, I had a quick question. I was trying to do some research on the 3kw spindle you're using. I grabbed the link you listed: http://m.aliexpress.com/item/32275916997.html?productId=32275916997&productSubject=INVERTER-DRIVE-VFD-GRINDING-ENGRAVING-SPINDLE-MOTOR-3KW-AIR-COOLED-ER11-COLLET-CHUCK-...

That's awesome!

My favorite projects to look at are small machined aluminum parts.
