Re: Steel rail upgrade ideas

If you search through the zoro tools website, they do have some with predrilled holes for the identical price. I may have linked to the undrilled ones. For those interested: http://www.pbclinear.com/V-Guide-Rail-for-Linear-Roller-Bearings and then click on the specifications tab to see some photos a...

Re: Ideas for really large machines

And way back when I thought about vertical machines I had not learned about tabs in gcode. It seems to me if you have a decent clamp down system then it would be just as effective as a horizontal workspace?

Re: Ideas for really large machines

I doubt it would too big of a deal. Now you have me wanting to make my machine vertical.. It could be two or three brackets and a long slim piece of mdf. Or a 2x4 or 2x6 if needed. And I'm sure you could make something that would stay in place the entire time, simply to catch any dust and debris tha...

Re: Ideas for really large machines

It seems almost every example of vertical cnc machines of any size I can find have the gantry in the vertical position as well. Do you have experience working with these type of machines? I'm just guessing, but it would seem to be just as likely to knock a hanging horizontal gantry out-of-square as ...

https://www.buildyourcnc.com/item/cnc-machine-greenLean-v1#prettyPhoto At first I thought you were talking about something like the above link. You just mean tilting it up and out of the way when not in use? Did you see this? http://hackaday.com/2015/05/08/portable-workbench-is-solid-and-space-savin...

Re: Steel rail upgrade ideas

I doubt they would. I believe openrail is designed for 20mm extrusion. I have 30mm-size extrusion (60x90). My idea was to get an aluminum or steel piece around 60-70mm wide (perhaps 3-4mm thick) which would attach to side of the rails, and then the rails would attach to the top and bottom of those. ...

Steel rail upgrade ideas

I'm curious as to what other have found for steel rails. I know mcmaster has them in 3ft and 6ft lengths. http://www.zoro.com/pbc-linear-linear-rail-4850-in-l-0187-w-0437-h-vrd1-048500/i/G0753672/ This is the most cost effective I've seen. Only the aluminum openrail is cheaper. I was going to eventu...

Re: 9mm wide GT2 pulleys on SDP/SI

The thing is, while the 9mm belting makes sense at the smaller--medium sizes, the 15mm doesn't really factor in until one has a _really_ big machine --- at that point, the cost differential should be correspondingly greater. We really do need a thorough examination of the various linear motion opti...

Re: 9mm wide GT2 pulleys on SDP/SI

Just a quick follow up, thanks for the replies and information. I thought I had already left a thank you, but it must have been too difficult to hit the send button. I'm worn out from searching gt2 belts and pulleys. Yes, there is a place in HK that sells $5 9mm wide, 8mm bore pulleys with 20 teeth,...

Re: 9mm wide GT2 pulleys on SDP/SI

Does anyone have any source for the following: GT2, 8mm bore (nema23), 9mm belt width? I would guess the tooth # would have to be a bit higher than 16 or 20, but I can't seem to find anything right now. I already sent off an email to robotdigg. I'd like to upgrade to 9mm belts. It may be more expens...
