I haven't finished my build yet, but I'm wondering why you couldn't just get some metal tubing at a hardware store or hobby shop. I think they usually sell brass tubing in 1 or 2ft sections pretty cheap, and it wouldn't seem to be too hard to set up an accurate way to cut them to the exact size need...

It was probably the Cerberus 3d delta printer, which is a variation on the rostock. There is a guy who has machined some for sale, but they are closer to $6-8 per wheel and I already have bearings anyway. I wasn't sure how it would work horizontally either, but figured it wouldn't really be so diffe...

Has there been anyone experimenting with using acrylic instead of metal for the plates in a shapeoko? I wasn't sure if 1/4in acrylic would be adequate as a replacement for the gantry and y axis pieces.
