Re: Buildlog Stepper Shields

Edward,

I PM'ed you. If you have any boards left, I would like to buy one. Thanks much.

Re: Signal Stepper Splitter?

Hmm, this looks neat and useful. Does anyone understand the current requirements to drive two motors, vs what a stepper driver can handle (for example, the grblshield) ?

If the stepper driver can handle it, this would be an easy way to implement a dual-motor Y-axis.

Re: Adding an extra Y motor - need an extra stepper controll

This is a very good question, that I have not heard a satisfactory answer to. From what I have read, it is possible to drive two stepper motors with one driver, but one has to be careful about running too much current through the driver and blowing it. I would guess that the best option would be to ...

Re: Stepper driver and Stepper shield

So since the buildlog log driver is out of the question, I am assuming the grblshield is the most straight-forward choice. Since it only has 3 drivers, how would one go about driving more motors (4,5..). I am would like to have the option to upgrade to more motors in the future in order to for examp...

Re: Stepper driver and Stepper shield

Looks like the Buildlog Stepper Shield is out of stock and I can't find a place to order it from.

This may not be the best option due to the limited availability.

Re: Power Supply

The Herbach PSU seems like the best option. Can anyone explain the current requirements needed to run Shapeoko?? Each stepper motor is rated at 1.7A so 3-4 motors would require 5.1 - 6.8 Amps. The TDK/Lambda PSU in the wiki is only rated at 4.5A, which would suggest that it is not powerful enough to...

Re: Naïve stepper motor question about voltages

Kargofab, What you said in the post above is wrong. Using ohm's law V=IR, as the voltage increases, the current will increase as well (assuming the device is ohmic). So for 1.7A and 3V the motor has R=1.76 ohms, and at 24V the current through the motor would be 24/1.76 = 13.63 Amps. However, this is...
