I started with sketchup but as soon as I tried more advanced shapes I was stoped by the licence that made it impossible to do some simple tricks so I changed to freecad and now I am testing 123d and actual starts to like it but I still have not decided on a good package.

So after trying almost all free cad software I could find I have finaly resolved to using FreeCad, all other softwares hade their limitations when trying them out. Either they where to advanced to learn in a evening or they where missing fundemental things like boolean operations that I love to use....

That is correct, but as you say, I do not think it is a big issue to make it to fit the ordinary shapeoko and secondly I belive this is quite easy to adjust to fit your dimensional needs.
