Re: Some direction and perhaps some perspective?

Wow Danimal. Thanks. Excellent post. Very clear and straight forward. My first venture is to make something that I can put my NIXIE clock into. The project as been in a pseudo state for about 3/4 of a year as my hand made attempts to route out plexi with a Dremil did not go so well. It is made using...

Re: Bleeding Dollars

@ Tweak, You are right. It is always going to be easier when you have the real thing in front of you. I have been eyeing this stuff for so long, I just want to start building stuff, like NOW. :D @ Will, Yeah, I am not a big fan of it. Photoshop always rocked, and Illustrator has always been the bane...

Shapeoko resolution?

I am actually getting some clarity on a few things. I was hoping that you might be able to check me to make sure I am on the right path here. So, I am doing some math after seeing a video about stepper resolution. The motors that come with the Shapeoko 2 are 200 steps per revolution. This as I under...

Re: Bleeding Dollars

I have seen much talk about Inkscape. I have Illustrator. Is there a reason to use IS verses Illustrator? Or is the key here vector?
What software did you purchase? Also, what was the plugin that you mentioned that you found?

Bleeding Dollars - and other miscellaneous nonesense

How does one decide where all their money goes? I am looking at many things where they are taking caliper measurements much finer than my Harbor Freight caliper will go. Do I need to invest in a better one? I see many folks are using Mach 3, CamBam, QCad... Similar to what I was asking in another po...

Where does your Shapeoko live?

I am trying to figure out where I will be setting up the S2 when it gets here. I have a large horizontal surface in my inside workshop (read air hockey table) that it could live on, or I could put it in the garage. I understand that it is going to be somewhat noisy. What I am concerned with is the d...

Some direction and perhaps some perspective?

Right, so I have been reading. I have been reading a lot. What it sounds like, is that I have found a spot of a lot of similar people. You find a new hobby. You read too much and end up throwing tons of money at your new hobby. While taking the moment to preach at the choir... There is a LOT of frea...

Re: So yeah... Hi

Cool. Thanks for the reassurance. I wasn't sure who officially ran the forum, naming rights n such, and who would make official future models. Not that it matters now. My brain tends to spin on big picture stuff. Good points about the open source aspect side of it though. I saw the link to the Gueri...

Re: So yeah... Hi

Dang. Bent while building. That the worst. Sorry. I am sure that because I have not learned to walk just yet, this is probably a question about sprinting... But Can I do 2(or +) sided work? I would like to think I could work on one surface, flip it , and some how zero out the machine and work the ot...

So yeah... Hi

I just purchased a S2 and thought I would come visit the new neighborhood. I have been reading like crazy and trying to figure out what it is that I just got myself into. When I get too bleary eyed to read, I go back to the front door and stare at it wondering why it is not here. I know it has not e...
