Re: Drilling with Shapeoko

Yeah, something like your link could work. Maybe. Has anyone tried it? How else are folks drilling holes that aren't 1/8" or 1/4" on their Shapeoko?

Re: New, larger aluminium extrusion

Are these only going to be available from the UK store? Just the 80 and the Z for now? I'm spec'ing a beefier machine than SO2/SO3 and bigger rail with steel v-wheels is the way to go...

Also, any chance of getting them hardcoat anodized?

Drilling with Shapeoko

Not sure if this belongs here or in general discussion... I was drilling some holes at work in aluminum with the Bridgeport clone. We have a chuck that looks like a regular drill press chuck, so loading up different bit sizes isn't an issue. I was wondering if loading up something similar in my Dewa...

Re: G10 Fiberglass or Carbon Fiber Sheets

For really detailed infomation sites like composite central are real friendly to new persons interested in the craft, but off the top of my head i would say: Choose your fabric glass, carbon, kevlar or a hybrid any two of these above. Some fabics can be purchased colored or you can paint them with ...

Re: G10 Fiberglass or Carbon Fiber Sheets

Thanks will. Workholding was mentioned in one of the carbide 3D threads, something I need to look at more closely. I used my machine to drill some #21 holes in aluminum plate. 62 holes to be exact. I used a carbide bit from precisebits, set the router to 2, and feed rate of 2 in/min, wd40 for coolan...

Re: G10 Fiberglass or Carbon Fiber Sheets

Ok,so what feeds, speeds and DOC are ya'll machining aluminum at? I have the tooling and significantly upgraded Shaepoko 2 but in my experience it still isn't rigid enough for machining aluminum (compared with the work I've done on an actual Bridgeport, Hurco milling center, waterjets etc.). I know ...

Re: New X-axis carriage for SO/SO2 with MegaRail

Jeromy,

Did you actually buy one of the z axis slides from cnc4newbie? I'm looking at their ballscrew version pretty heavily,
but would love some feedback from an owner.

It looks like the same slide that automation technologies sell if someone has one of those.

Re: Z-axis with small 9mm carriages and linear rail (NSK)

Go with these and find a matching ballscrew. It will take some effort to design all the mounting plates. Recommend you attach the rails to the actual spindle carriage and the carriages to the x-axis effectively.
