Re: Planning to get a Shapeoko 2, and have some questions

Hello. Could somebody check the height of Shapeoko 2 with Nema17/23 from bottom of wasteboard to top of motor shaft on the z axis ? I don't know, as I don't have my Shapeoko 2 yet, but it is a good question, I would also like to know the distance between the table/workbench and the bottom of the Ma...

Re: Planning to get a Shapeoko 2, and have some questions

The Mk. I kits came with a M5 tap and handle for it. (And some cheap spanners, decent pliers and a long, thin flat-bladed screwdriver.) If the Mk II also comes with tools, I wouldn't consider buying any Tap&Die set as good ones tends to be rather pricey, unless you actually need a kit. What kind of...

Re: Planning to get a Shapeoko 2, and have some questions

Spin by an auto parts store and buy some plastic bin assortments of M5 hardware, go to a hardware store and buy boxes of 100 M3 and M5 washers --- I considered this, but didn't and it would've saved me a lot of time and gas (for penance I now ride my bicycle). I had to order all the metric nuts, bo...

Re: Planning to get a Shapeoko 2, and have some questions

I got thinking about the things I wanted to do with the CNC router, and decided to make a second smaller CNC router just for milling aluminum and PCB Bords, and to scale up the Shapeoko 2 to cut a 48x48 inch sheet of plywood or plastic. I am thinking I need a table about 5 x 5 foot, and will need 4 ...

Re: Breathing n such

I have been reading about all sorts of breathing protection. Rockler has an interesting article about various flavors of protection. I was wondering what you guys were using. I am looking at one of the washable masks as it will save some bucks over time and it works down to 3 microns. But I am wond...

Re: What else should I have on hand?

If you are worried about tapping, get a tapping guide, they are about $20, have a look over here

http://www.tapguide.com

You can buy them on Amazon and eBay, there is also a round tapping guide that I have seen, that comes in metal and plastic, I would stick with metal.

Re: Planning to get a Shapeoko 2, and have some questions

I use a Gecko G540. Made in the USA and pretty bullet proof. I also have had good luck with a TB6560 driver from china. I have been wanting the Gecko driver for years, but don't have the extra money now, I also thought about the HobbyCNC PRO Driver Board kit, its like $100, so the price is not to b...

Planning to get a Shapeoko 2, and have some questions

I already have a CNC router, but its slow, and the accuracy is not very good, its made with acrylic, cutting boards, and electrical conduit, with a base of MDF, it was a low cost cheap start into CNC, but I want something better and faster, the CNC router I have now takes hours cutting something sma...
