Re: Universal Gcode Sender v1.0.7 released!

No, I am not using the AMD Catalyst drivers, because I am getting fairly good performance from the free driver, and I am booting in EFI mode, which makes getting Catalyst running a massive pain. I get pretty good speed on the various GLX benchmarks that I tried, so I didn't fret much over the lack o...

Re: Universal Gcode Sender v1.0.7 released!

I've been using UGS, quite successfully, on OS X for quite a while, but I finally built my workshop PC, which is a Linux Mint 16-powered Core 2 Duo. On that host, UGS 1.0.7 mostly works fine, but I can't get the visualizer to work. I get the following rather unhelpful exception: $ ./start.sh [Boot] ...

Re: Z Axis Inaccurate (Overplunges)

So, I think that the problem seems to be solved. Apparently, it was indeed the seek speed that was at fault. I changed $5 to 250.000 (~10 in/min), and ran a job that nested rounded rectangles, at increasing depths, and the output was right on. I then re-ran the job that I uploaded to this thread, an...

Re: Z Axis Inaccurate (Overplunges)

I've been wondering if I should consider upgrading my GRBL version. I'm using the Inventables-supplied Gshield and Arduino, and v0.8c, which is still the stable version. I also have the Acme Z-axis upgrade, in hand, but I have been putting off that upgrade, until I figure out my current problem. - A...

Re: Z Axis Inaccurate (Overplunges)

Interesting suggestions! I have indeed checked the collet, and it is tight as heck. I've not caught it loosening, since I switched to the DW660 spindle. I use a _large_ wrench for tightening it, and put a fair amount of torque on the collet lug. As far as the z seek speed goes, that is indeed a good...

Re: Z Axis Inaccurate (Overplunges)

OK, I finally got a chance to get back to my shop, and dump the variables. I did find one mechanical problem, while testing, in that my z-axis coupler wasn't tight-enough on the threaded rod end. So, I tightened that, but I doubt that would have caused over-plunging. Here is my current config: >>> $...

Re: Z Axis Inaccurate (Overplunges)

Thanks, Will.

No, I haven't tuned the current, for any axis. I do have Inventables' aluminum electronics case, and have a 24v fan mounted, blowing down on the top of the gshield.

Thanks!

Re: Z Axis Inaccurate (Overplunges)

So, both of you think this is speed-related, and not stepping? I had thought that maybe the movement requests were being mistranslated into stepper motor movements.

I'll do a GRBL variable dump, as soon as I can get to my S2.

Thanks!

Re: Z Axis Inaccurate (Overplunges)

Thanks for the replies... Yes, the problem exists on all prints, as far as I can tell. I haven't tried to print anything pre-compiled, other than the original "Hello Shapeoko 2" Gcode. As far as how much, on a 5/8" theoretical plunge, the bit is plunging over 1", and bottoming out the collet on the ...

Z Axis Inaccurate (Overplunges)

All, I'm having a problem that seems similar, but not exactly the same, as others on the forum. When I cut, the Z axis is plunged deeper than what is configured in the SVG, or apparently, what is in the G-code. I have a stock shapeoko 2, that was a full kit, which I have upgraded the spindle to a De...
