Openbuilds opinions

I have been looking around a lot on openbuilds, mostly at the larger format OX machine, as well as their version of "v rails". Who here has first hand experience with these rails and wheels system? How is it compared to the Shapeoko? I really want to build a sturdier and larger platform and have bee...

Cutting Acrylic? some help?

I'm going to be cutting some pieces out of 1/4in thick Cast Clear acrylic sheet. I plan on using a 3 or 4 flute 1/8in straight endmill. I have the DNP611 spindle I can spin anywhere from 16k to 26k RPM. Can you guys suggest some feeds and rpm speeds? As wel as the depth of cut per pass? Thanks fella...

Re: My GRBL pendant

I'm closer to a layout that I like: http://i.imgur.com/zmwVxoM.jpg I'll have more space between the controls and hopefully etched labels, and a couple of different controls when I get them. I also got the rotary encoder figured out, mostly. It occasionally misses steps but I suspect it's something ...

dimensions are off from drawings

Well, I'm not sure what's going on. I suppose this is probably the 0 and 1 value being off? I have the 40.2 that is normally suggested

When my machine is supposed to create a 3.0mm dia hole with a 1.5in endmill, i get a 2.5-2.7mm hole. Do i need to change some settings?

Re: Shielded cable or not

How critical is this?

Amazon totally f'd me over and send me 100ft of unshielded 4conductor 18g wire instead of the shielded one i ordered.

Re: Really far off on the z, or is it wasteboard?

Found the problem..Which I was already upgrading. The 3/4in MDF wasteboard is warped /drooping almost 5mm in the center. its about 1.2mm just 100mm from each end of the machine. I have some 20x40 extrusions coming to build a better frame, as well as planning on building an aluminum slotted bed and b...

Re: Really far off on the z, or is it wasteboard?

As is noted in several places, the Altocraft stock spindle for the SO2 has two different diameters --- you need to shim the back of it against the universal spindle mount to get it plumb (also see positioning a spindle vertically on the wiki). I just put a zip tie around the lower portion of the sp...
