I agree.. It's safe to say that X-carve is, at best, basically a shapeoko clone at version 2.5. :P

The Shapeoko 3 is going to be a beast. I can't wait until April.

Re: Which bits should I have to start with? DWP611

The stock 1/4" collet that comes with the 611 seems to be good enough for most people. Forum member twforeman recently measured his stock 1/4" collet at 0.004" of runout, and a Precise Bits 1/4" collet measured in at 0.002" of runout , which is well under the precision of the Shapeoko anyway. Unles...

Re: Which bits/end mills should I have to start with? DWP611

@sisco, What type of materials do you want to cut & what type of work are you planning on doing? Most of the work I envision immediately when I get my SO3 will be cutting Hardwood 3/4"-1 1/4", then expanding from there. I'll use 1/4" carbide spiral up cut & down cut bits to begin with. My preferenc...

Which bits/end mills should I have to start with? DWP611

I've pre-ordered the Shapeoko 3 and I just ordered the DeWalt DWP611 from Lowes for $89.10 (10% off discount code) as it was the lowest price I could find and it's local. I have done a lot of reading and I know I will want a couple collets.. 1/8 and 1/4. It appears that the best two choices based on...

Re: What is the ShapeOko 3 surprise?

I'd read that to indicate that the mechanics were in place --- motor holes and plates, but can see how it might indicate electronics support (including power supply?). The "all 3 axis will accept NEMA23 form factor, without modification." makes me assume it's just a matter of mounting the new stepp...

Re: What is the ShapeOko 3 surprise?

What's the "ComMotion" about? Is it 4 drive motor capable and able to handle NEMA23? The Nema 23 support is already built in, so not part of the surprise... From the Shapeoko blog @ http://www.shapeoko.com/blog/archives/1404 "Shapeoko 3 ships with powerful nema17 motors, but if you want to add even...

I'm looking forward to reading more about this down the road as you get the project started. :)

Re: S2 VS S3

In my consideration process, I asked myself.. Do I want to spend for the S2 now and the drop more money on it so I can do more later? The S2 can cut soft wood easily and can do hard wood, soft metal very slowly and/or with some mods which will cost more anyways, or I can just get the S3 and jump ahe...

Re: Vote for your favorite ShapeOko spindle solution!

I think with the new Shapeoko 3 coming out, this post may have to be edited to reflect the favorite spindle solution for the various models. I doubt you will see many Dremals mounted to the beefier Shapeoko 3. Perhaps since the Shapeoko 3 is coming out, the title of this post can be "Vote for your f...
