Re: Laser Diode Engraving

Use an opaque box with this for a cover or windows in the box sides.

Works well for me with 445nm laser diodes. and keeps my visitors all safe.

Re: Stable GRBL 0.9g settings for full kit stock?

In my case, I had a Z axis lead nut that was drilled and tapped at an angle, putting a slight bind on the lead screw. This caused a problem for me similar to what you report. A new nut fixed my problem.

Re: Laser Diode Engraving

danparker, Having both spindle machines (2) and laser diode machines (2 now and soon to increase), I agree with Will. I'm sure some are doing both with one machine, but as a machine for laser diode use can be made much smaller and lighter than a spindle machine, it just doesn't seem reasonable to me...

Re: Laser Diode Engraving

I have posted a short video of my Shapeoko2 laser diode engraving an image.

I am using a sender program (PicSender) I am working on to send the gcode to GRBL 9e.

Re: Laser Diode Engraving

Woodworker,
They are very small. I use G20 mode, and the Z gcode value range is 0 to -.0255 inches. Further, I have the Z axis step/mm set to 393.7008. This gives me 256 power levels for the laser diode.

Re: Laser Diode Engraving

I laser diode engraved this image yesterday with my Shapeoko 2 and the 9d version of GRBL. I used a gcode sender program I am presently writing running on my Win 8 laptop. I have been using my Shapeoko and Arduino for a few weeks now, and while I personally find it somewhat limited in features when ...

Re: Laser Diode Engraving

I used the 8c version that ships with the Shapeoko. I am running some tests with 9d as I write this, and it seems to be doing good for me. I am not using PWM for my analog signals. I am using an 8bit digital to analog converter circuit to convert Z stepper pulses from GRBL into a 0 to 5v signal for ...

Re: Laser Etching Photos

Thank you for your very kind words. Much appreciated. I started putting my Shapeoko together yesterday. What a quality kit it is. Tomorrow the Arduino and grblShield go live, followed soon by a laser diode. I have temporarily suspended PicLaser Lite sales until I can personally verify it's working c...
