Is the grounding necessary? I'd like to keep wiring as simple as possible and I'm not using shielded cables. It's not a must but highly recommended in order to reduce noise, especially if you plan to add home/limit switches and probes down the road. It should be very easy to do if you use inventabl...

It seems like you've set the params way too low.
Depth per pass, feedrate and plunge rates are too low..

Wantai NEMA 23 steppers motors (At the end I used only 3 bolts for the Y motors to not deal with the X makerslides, I don't think it's an issue, or am I wrong?) 2. Belt Z axis upgrade 3. Maybe using something similar to PCB probing done in chilipepper using some special probe tool? I saw many of these on eBay...

This way you'll probe the stock and have equal depth all across.
