The Serial Port JSON Server does have a buffer for up to 20,000 lines of Gcode in memory. So, if everything is queued up into SPJS, you absolutely could shutdown your browser. On grbl I'm using the m3 and m5 to start/stop and s1000 - s12000 to control speed...
