Re: Shapeoko 2 inspired custom build

Couple of updates, I'm in the process of switching to 15mm GT2, 3mm pitch belts. My 276 oz nema 23's seem to be a bit much for the smaller GT2 2mm belts. I should have those mounted and up and running this weekend. A month or so ago I also switched to a Routakit HD Z axis, and X plates with the addi...

Re: Shapeoko 2 inspired custom build

So I finally caught myself machining something and figured I'd record a video on my phone, quality isn't good. I'll eventually get some better quality videos cutting larger stuff. But I guess it's the thought that counts, right?? 1/8" acrylic cut in a single pass, with a 1/16" thermoplastic bit from...

Re: Shapeoko 2 inspired custom build

Running the same y-axis rails with that X and Z-axis setup? I ended up swapping out the rails as well. I ditched the makerfoot things and went with 20X40 makerslide, sandwiched with another 20X40 extrusion, then used the midspan support kit to support the middle of the rail. I found that by doing t...

Re: Shapeoko 2 inspired custom build

That's one heavy spindle on a very long gantry, even for a reinforced one. Is there any major deflection at the tip of the mill? I'm using a 1.5kW china spindle (Works surprisingly well), but due to the weight, I'm going to make something along the lines of what you did... Just a matter of getting ...

I'll have to post a video of it landing on the pad.

Helicopter Pad

Good morning, I'll have some videos up soon, but I wanted to throw together a project to test out my Big machine that I recently finished getting up and running. Made from 1/4" MDF, some wire mesh, and led lights. Helicopter pad for the indoor Rc helicopters. http://i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p567...

Re: Shapeoko 2 inspired custom build

AFK66, any problems getting the 4 sets of wheels on the Z axis to all touch the rail with equal pressure? I'm about to add a 3rd (middle) set to my SO2 Z axis. I have a friend building an OX, he is having trouble getting the 3rd wheel to even make contact with the rail. I made the plate for him, an...

samc99us wrote:Looks really good! Do you mind pointing out which holes you used in the x-axis to mount your 8020 z-axis? I have everything to do that but I figured there were some clearance issues with at least two fasteners.
I can take some pictures for you this afternoon and highlight which holes where used.

Misread it as Beer stand... ;-)

Still, cool-looking project.

Hey it could double as a beer stand / table, if your going for the teddy bear vibe. Lol. Thanks for the compliments on the project!
