The A4988 chip is capable of delivering up to 2A with sufficient cooling. That should be enough for your motors.
Your set current is 2.5 x Vref. You can measure Vref between the dial of the pot and GND.

Re: How to speed up travel time between cuts?

This is defined in the GRBL settings under x/y/z max rate (mm/min). Set these (depending on your setup) to, let's say 5000 for x and y and 800 for z and things should speed up significantly. Perhaps you can go faster, but you should test this out since if you're going too fast there's the danger of ...

Re: Squeal from Z axis stepper

That's probably your Z stepper losing steps because of a too high feedrate in Z direction. Try decreasing the Z feedrate either in makercam or in your GRBL settings (depending on your GRBL version). Increasing the current delivered by the stepper drivers to the steppers also helps for achieving high...

Re: Tool Chain and Advice for a Mac user starting CNC

It isn't harder on a mac than it is under other systems. You just need to find the right tools, there are definitely affordable tools available that can do more than just an outline cut on a rectangular shape like most of the free "CAM software" is able of. :D For drawing and designing my parts i us...

Re: Gshield Issue/electronics

My first thought would be to try a soft reset through your gcode sender or type $X in its command line.
Maybe that will help.
