Re: PWM Speed Control - Will it work with gshield?

Connect F/R to GND, that should reverse it. Thanks for the suggestion, but that didn't work. It caused the motor to behave somewhat erratically and even start on it's own with the pot turned all the way down. And it still spun CCW. Here's what I tried that does seem to work: After reading online ab...

Re: PWM Speed Control - Will it work with gshield?

The PWM pin (11) on the Arduino will be outputting a +5vpp signal so that means you need a common reference point (Ground). Make sure the "Control GND" and the Arduino's GND are tied together and you should be good. (you don't have to remove the GND lead for the speed pot just add a wire to the Ard...

Re: Recommended Power Supply for 400W Spindle

After much searching, I went with this one:

Re: Recommended Power Supply for 400W Spindle

Depends - do you intend to upgrade your spindle or run other stuff off of the same power supply? Might it be cheaper in the long run to buy bigger up front? You make a good point. It's a small extra investment to have the extra power if I need it. That said, anyone recommend a good supplier for a 4...

Re: Recommended Power Supply for 400W Spindle

The controller is an HX-WS400 . It claims to have "over current circuit protection" and "soft switch function". I hooked it up to a 24V PS to test it, and it does seem to have a soft-start feature. It gradually spins up rather than kicking on like my router does. But that may be due to the lower vol...

Recommended Power Supply for 400W Spindle

I recently purchased a 400W Chinese spindle . I need a power supply for it. Specs for the motor: 48v DC 400W Specs for driver controller: 12V-52V 10A (15A peak) 500W (up to working voltage) The 400W power supply offered by Inventables seems like a good match. My experience with power supplies is mos...

Re: PWM Speed Control - Will it work with gshield?

Thanks cvoinescu, it's making sense to me now. I have over 20 years of experience in IT, so I'm comfortable with the software part of this. Where I have limited experience and need help is with the electronics and physically wiring this up. So, I assume there's a wire running from D11 on the Arduino...

Re: PWM Speed Control - Will it work with gshield?

...your best bet is to order the spindle and controller from the same source, that way the are compatible I did just that. This is the kit I purchased: http://www.ebay.com/itm/251628160639?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT From the description: Speed/Current alike close loo...

Re: PWM Speed Control - Will it work with gshield?

I see now that the SuperPID uses an optical sensor to "close the loop". The description for the control motor that I ordered makes the following claim: Closed-loop steady speed, when a large load speed of the motor can maintain It's not the best English, but it's clear that it promises to adjust the...

Re: PWM Speed Control - Will it work with gshield?

Thanks CBB. That's very helpful. While controlling RPM's via PWM is doable (and kinda cool), the trade-offs and complexity don't seem worth the effort. The potentiometer would be just fine if I can get an indication of what the RPM's actually are. In other words, I'd like to set different runs at sp...
