Re: Best inexpensive (<$200) quiet spindle?
That's one I've considered. Apparently it has a built-in hall effect sensor, which lets it do closed-loop RPM control. That sounds intriguing. This is all new territory for me. My plan is to initially just use the potentiometer that comes with it to control RPM. I've been researching how I might us...

Re: Best inexpensive (<$200) quiet spindle?
I just purchased a 400W brushless motor. This is from Wikipedia: Brushless motors offer several advantages over brushed DC motors, including more torque per weight, more torque per watt (increased efficiency), increased reliability, reduced noise, longer lifetime (no brush and commutator erosion), e...

Re: HeeksCNC units
Any resolution to this? I'm trying HeeksCAD/CNC, and it seems promising. I've run into the same issue. I create an SVG of a 1-inch square in Illustrator, MakerCAM and Visio and they can all open them without a problem. Heeks seems to ignore the defined units and treat everything as millimeters. From...

Re: PWM Speed Control - Will it work with gshield?
Here's a link to the electronic speed controller (ESC) that comes with the motor:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-BLDC-HX-WS4 ... 1409264751
It has a connection marked "PWM". It's probably a simple connection from the Arduino/gShield, but I'm new at this...

Re: 600W ShapeOko spindle power supply?
Are you referring to this speed controller from inventables?
https://www.inventables.com/technologie ... controller
That has "300W Max" output. Will that work with your 600W spindle?

PWM Speed Control - Will it work with gshield?
I'm considering a 400W, brushless spindle that comes with "PWM speed control (Mach 3 control)". I'm new to this, so I'm wondering does "PWM speed control" mean I can control the speed with the Arduino/gshield/universal gcode sender combination? Or, is this specific to a Mach 3 setup as the descripti...

Re: NEMA 23 gShield config
I'm planning my first build and also thinking of using the gshield with the NEMA 23's listed on inventables . Those motors can draw 2.8A giving 140oz-in. I understand that the gshield won't provide that current, but my thinking is that I'll have the extra capacity when (or if) I upgrade later. Any d...

Re: What is "an exceptionally heavy spindle"?
Thanks for the link, WillAdams.
Given that the NEMA 17's weigh .35kg and the 23's are .65kg, that seems like a small price to pay in added weight for the upgrade potential and perhaps speed.

What is "an exceptionally heavy spindle"?
I'm a new user here as well as new to CNC. I cancelled an order for the Zen Toolworks 12x12 F8 kit when I came across the Shapeoko and this wonderful community. Right now, I'm putting together a customized parts list based on the Full Kit (500mm x 500mm). I'm debating whether I should just go ahead ...
