Re: Adding limit switches.

Connect normally-open switches between GND and pins 9, 10 and 11 (for X, Y and Z respectively). If you want switches at both ends of an axis, connect them in parallel to the same pin. It is not strictly necessary, but, to improve noise immunity, also connect three 1 Kohm resistors between VDD and p...

Re: Trouble uploading GRBL 0.8 HEX

My guess is Inventables flashed your Uno's chip with GRBL from an ICSP writer (directly to the chip) instead of uploading it through the USB serial port (through the bootloader). This would be easier for them because it's much faster to upload code and they can skip the initial USB autoconfigure, un...

Re: Trouble uploading GRBL 0.8 HEX

I wonder if you overwrote the bootloader when you installed GRBL 0.7.

How did you install that software?

Re: Trouble uploading GRBL 0.8 HEX

What version of Windows do you have?

Also, do you have any problems uploading a sketch from the Arduino IDE, e.g. "blink", when the board is set to "Uno" and the port is set to "com3" ?

Re: Fuse Settings?

I'm still curious does the grbl.hex file replace or overwrite the bootloader or do I need to flash the OptiLoader bootloader first and then grbl.hex to get it to work in my UNO. When you get a new ATMega chip it's completely blank, and you need to program it via SPI from something like your Bus Pir...

Re: Fuse Settings?

Is it the default UNO low=0xff, high=0xde, ext=0x05? Correct, those are the fuse settings for an ATMega328P with the OptiLoader bootloader (the default Uno settings). That should work for you. If that doesn't work, try low=0xFF, high= 0xDF , ext=0x05. This clears bit 0 in the high fuse (BOOTRST) wh...

Re: An update

Sorry for the delayed response. Happy Thanksgiving weekend! Unless you don't live in the US, in which case, happy weekend! 1) What is your motivation for building this? I was going to say bald-faced greed but laziness is probably more accurate. What applications are you looking to use this machine f...

Re: An update

@colin - That's great, thanks! @cvoinescu - I have considered a paste extruder. The biggest problem I face for the next phase is expansion of the controller. The default GRBL build supports 3 axis + a spindle. There are builds out there that support a 4th axis (A), but I'll need that to control pick...

An update

My pick and place machine got delayed 3 months due to a busy schedule at work, but I finally have it working and running reliably. It just finished its 3rd board and only messed up on 1 LED (out of 1152) so I'm happy with it for now. There's no optical calibration so placement accuracy isn't that gr...
