Re: Create g-code for filled shape
Did you ever find an answer? You might look at the Eggbot hatch fill plugin for Inkscape.

Re: Jimmy's Build
I don't think they even offer everything fully assembled, plus you may need to solder the Wixel to the shield without a socket to fit under a GRBLShield. I think they work with Mac, but I've never tried. By the way, the GRBLShield really works well. You'll need heatsinks of some sort, but it's very ...

Re: Jimmy's Build
If you're looking for wireless, Pololu.com's Wixels are pretty nice. They're wireless microcontrollers with USB, commonly used as a serial bridge from a computer to an Arduino. Two Wixels & a shield are $37 until the 21st with coupon code 121212WXLPAIR.
Anyways, welcome!

GCode preview
I've been working on a PHP/HTML5 GCode tool path previewer. Aside from finding out how much Trig I've forgotten, I've come up with a 2d (X/Y only ) previewer. Since it's hosted on my site, the source file size is limited to 2mb. Once it's a bit more polished I'll post the code somewhere. Let me know...

Re: New Wiki page
:-) I guess I assume people know the safety requirements before they buy something. Do-it-yourself doesn't apply to cataract surgery. As far as the materials, dark paper or card stock, craft foam, even 1/16" bass wood (so long as the starting point is darkened with a black Sharpie first). It has a t...

New Wiki page
I wrote a Wiki page for the low power laser cutter upgrade - can someone add it to the sidebar?

Re: Extruders
I've got a Qu-bd. I don't have any experience with others so I can't compare it. I had trouble running PLA - the material would catch or freeze and the feed gear would strip the filament and it would have to be removed, cut, and re-inserted every 10 seconds or so. I ended up manually pushing it thro...

You should be able to mark acrylic with the standard paper backing.

Re: 3d printer upgrade
I've just about got my 3d printer operational - all I'm missing is a bit of configuration & a couple of right angle brackets to mount the extruder. I picked up a Printrboard & a qu-bd extruder. The 12v seems to drive everything fairly well, even with the dual-Y steppers.
