Re: Experiments in aluminium (6082) cutting on an eShapeoko
I found that at least some of those cheap chinese endmills advertised as carbide are probably not carbide. I cant mill 6061 aluminun with them without chipweld. I have no problem however with quality carbide end mills.

Keep us posted! I like to build custom machines so it is fun for me to see others walk through the (often very long) process.

Re: Spindle wont go up to clear surface at beginning of job
Open G code file in text editor. You may have to rename with a .txt extension to open with notepad (other options too ,but i will keep it simple). The header of the file will include commands such as: G90 G94 G21 G17 M3...etc Then your first xy traverse: G0 X143.2 Y23.9. (Just as an example, could b...

Re: Spindle wont go up to clear surface at beginning of job
I dont use Create, but I did experince this in Fusion 360. I usually edit the g code to lift to whatever clearance I desire. Another option which I also use is to just start above stock zero at my desird safe height. It will traverse in the xy plane and then move down to your first cutting depth as ...

Re: Where to get this shim?
Thanks for the pointer CV. I ended up ordering some of the traxxas washers that SpeedRacer referenced. If those prove to be too close of a fit I may have to grab some from you.

How is it when just moving in one direction? Move in x. Did it travel as far as expected? Move in y. Did it travel as far as expected? Now move diagonally, say 250mm. Did it travel as far as expected in both directions? Do any v wheels have a flat such that the machine is cogging along instead of ro...

Re: Where to get this shim?
Outstanding. Thanks for the help on it. As I think about it more, I am probably going to be safer with a 5 mm ID and 7 mm OD. I put my micrometer back on it and if it's a little off centered when I tighten things up then I'll be on the outer race. I did see some shims in that ID and OD, but they wer...

Where to get this shim?
I need a washer that is about 5 ID (or a little oversized for clearance of a 5mm bolt) with an OD of about 8mm or less. This is not a standard size. I didn't see anything at Fastenal. Does anyone have any advice on where to get it?

Re: Handheld cnc router
I figured it would have to be somewhere in that range. It's a cool device, but the price would have to come way down for it to be a viable product in my opinion. It's a very niche product, and the select type of customer who would buy this knows what he or she can get done in terms of a DIY 3 axis v...
