Re: CNC Piranha Fx

In what world of small hobby cnc is 110 ipm cutting feedrate slow? Maybe if you take .01 stepdowns its low, but for anyone actually making sawdust thats not a bad feed. Meh...its low if you like cutter life and have the horsepower to push the tool. But ive since noticed that the colt would probably...

Re: CNC Piranha Fx

This was one of the options i weighed when i chose the Axiom AR1. I couldnt stand that the shark was all made of HDPE. I also went and saw a shark HD3, but the spindle carriage had a lot of flex. My goal was tight tolerences, but i didnt need a big build area. Overall, im happy i went with the axio...

Re: CNC Piranha Fx

Also...you will not be able to expand the size of the AR1. That wasn't an issue for me because I can still hop on a large shopbot when needed...but if that's something you want to do...this isn't the machine for you.

Re: CNC Piranha Fx

Overall, im happy i went with the axiom. Its been awesome aside from limited feed rate. Realistically...I wouldnt expect it to cut over 110 IPM. It was also near 700 more after vcarve. 110 IPM is pretty low, but I could live with it. Does one require vcarve to drive it? Can you use Dewalt router in...

Re: Leftover parts from upgraded machines

I think it would be possible to join two rails together, but it'd be a pain to ensure they are straight and continuous. Fortunately the rail walls are very thick and it would be conceivable to bolt metal strapping between the rails. Or, machine an aluminum coupling. Sure, it'd look ugly and may req...

Re: Expansion packs announced

Im not sure thats accurate. Reverse engineering physical components is perfectly legal as long as it has been lawfully obtained. If theres not a patent on the rails...what leg do they have to stand on? The fact that the product was released under a noncommercial license. You may however be right th...

Re: Expansion packs announced

Now... I had read some things about Carbide possibly pursuing people who would commercially sell the extrusion, this needs to be clarified. Is this true? They'd certainly be within their rights to. The machine is released under a non-commercial license ( source ), so you're not allowed to sell the ...

Re: New - Software, Work Flow Questions

What type of plastic and what do you define as "fine"?

Whats was your feed rate and depth of cut with the engraving bits? What material?
